Fido Fashion, Inc. is currently launching its all new magnetic snaphook, created with specific uses in mind, including dog leashes and women’s handbags. A unique retractable dog leash will follow soon.
Our newly-patented snaphook design does away with the traditional compression spring, which forcibly pushes the slide bolt closed, and replaces it with a small magnet that pulls the clip smoothly closed.
Compression springs used on traditional snaphooks exert little or no pressure when the hook is closed, so the mechanism 'rattles' and a small connector ring can easily slip out. And, as the user tries to open the slide bolt it becomes progressively more difficult to move as the spring’s force increases.
To overcome this dynamic, some manufacturers use a stronger spring, or design the spring to compress even when the clasp is fully closed. This can make an accidental snapback more likely, and the greater the attempt to open the clasp, the more violent the snapback, injuring fingers or nails.
Replacing the spring with a magnet feature has several advantages. First, the maximum force is now exerted when the clip is closed rather than in the open position, so it won’t loosen when closed and it's less likely that attachments will inadvertently slip out. It also means we can use a more gentle magnet that is just strong enough to close the clip.
The clip itself is very easy to keep open with only light pressure, and is engineered to be gentle on fingers and won't aggressively snap closed. Increased pressure at closure occurs within the last 2-3mm. The design opens inward and uses a much more natural physical motion between the thumb and forefinger than traditional snaphooks, allowing even those with conditions such as arthritis to easily use it.
